On Wednesday the 24th of September 5th class went to the National Museum of Ireland. We left school at 9:30 and we went into town on the Luas.
When we got to the National Museum, we firstly went into the Treasury section which had artefacts such as the Ardagh Chalice, the Tara Brooch and the Cross of Cong. We were also told that the Tara Brooch was found on a beach in a box with some other artefacts in it by a boy. They also think that the Ardagh Chalice was found under a rock.
After that, we went into a room where there were some Viking artefact replicas. There were also some real artefacts such as; a whale’s bone, a deer’s bone and a comb made out of deers bones. We passed some of them around and we all tried some of them on. Next we returned to the treasury and we then looked at some more artefacts.
After that we ate our lunches in St. Stephen’s Green. And finally we returned to the school. Visiting the National Museum of Ireland was a great experience and I really enjoyed it.
