We have been preparing for our Confirmation in Rang a Sé. This term in particular, we have been very busy. Firstly, we attended an Enrolment Ceremony in Holy Cross Church in January. At the ceremony we made a promise to commit ourselves to this special time of preparation. We attended a day's retreat in Benildus Pastoral Centre in January too. It was a very enjoyable day and it felt nice to go elsewhere to think about and reflect on our upcoming Confirmation and its significance in our lives. Here we are in the grounds of the centre:
We have been involved in the 'You Shall Be My Witnesses' Programme in our school over the past few weeks and have enjoyed meeting 6th Class pupils from other schools who will also be making their Confirmation this year.
We are now getting ready for our Ceremony of Light which will take place on Thursday, 16th February. This is a lovely ceremony during which our parents hand on the light of faith to us. The Church recognises us as Christian adults when we receive the Holy Spirit and this ceremony highlights the way in which we play a central role in our own faith. We've been looking at references to light in the Bible and discussing ways in which we ourselves can be a light in our lives and ways that we can show how the light of Christ can be present in our thoughts and actions. Our choir will be singing at the ceremony. Mr. Mac Mathúna taught us Van Morrison's song 'Whenever God Shines His Light On Me' which we will sing on the evening!
We have been meeting with Fr. Kieran in Holy Cross Church and have been very lucky to get an inside guide and tour to the newly-refurbished church. As he said himself, we are now experts in our knowledge of many details pertaining to the artwork, symbols and areas of the church! Many thanks to Fr. Kieran. We appreciate your support in our preparation for our Confirmation.
Finally, we have been keeping a special Confirmation Book which will serve as a memento of our preparation. We have also been doing artwork towards our Ceremony of Light. Here we are making our stained glass candle holders which we think will add some wonderful colour to our ceremony!
Our Confirmation Ceremony will be on the 10th March. We will be sure to let you know how we get on!
