A Busy Start to the Year in Rang 2!

October 8, 2017

Ms. Jennings' Rang a Dó have had a great start to the year and we can't believe how much we've done in the past month!

Every morning we have 'Power Hour'. Four teachers help us with our reading, writing and word study. We all work very hard and Ms. Jennings says that we are great at organising ourselves and getting ready each day.

We have been learning about the life-cycle of the apple tree and we visited the school garden to study our own apple trees! We then did some sketching of different features of the garden in our new sketch books.

Is maith linn a bheith ag caint as Ghaeilge sa rang. We have been learning focail (words), rannta (verses) and amhráin (songs) based on the theme 'Mé Féin' (Myself). We know how to talk a little about ourselves and our families in Irish and enjoy using greetings when we see other people too.

We are doing some fun activities with 2D shapes in Maths at the moment. We enjoyed drawing shape pictures using the 2D shapes that we know.

In SESE we have been busy doing taste tests in Science, drawing up our family tree in History and learning about features of towns now and long ago in Geography.

We have been discussing the season of autumn in English and Irish and have learned the poem 'Duilleoga Deasa Deasa' and also the 'Raindrop Song'.

In Art we looked at some work by the painter Miró and we did great pictures that showed different types of lines and marks. We also make marks after mixing different coloured paints together and we have displayed them proudly on the walls!

This year is a very special one for lots of the children in Rang a Dó as we will be making our First Communion next May. We had our special Enrolment Ceremony on Sunday in Holy Cross Church. We are committing to doing our very best in preparing for this both at school, at home and in church.

There's so much else going on but we thought that this would give you a flavour of what has been happening in our class. We are delighted that there are some new children in our class too and we hope that they feel happy and welcome :)
