The Month of October in 1st Class

November 1, 2017

October has been a very busy month here in 1st Class. Here are some of the things we did. Our first theme was 'Homes and Houses'. We looked at the different materials houses are made of, the different types of houses there are and houses in the past. We read the story of 'The House that Grew' and then designed our own versions of it. We also created our own houses using different 2D shapes that we cut out.

We also learned about Autumn. We went on a nature walk around the school and collected lots of different Autumn leaves and conkers. We discussed differences and similarities between the different leaves we found.

Is maith linn a bheith ag caint as Gaeilge sa rang. We performed the Haca as Gaeilge during our tionól performance. We really 'gave it socks' and some say looked as fearsome as the New Zealand rugby team!

We had so much fun dressing up for Halloween. We joined the rest of the school for a zombie dash around the school and got to see all the other great costumes. In groups we made our own Halloween potions using baking soda, vinegar, food colouring and washing up liquid. It was fun! We also learned about different Halloween traditions all around the world.

All in all, we have had a very enjoyable first half term and we look forward to lots more enjoyable learning experiences and active learning during the second half.
